Pumpkin Oat Dog Biscuits |
Making your own homemade dog biscuits is economical and easy. Better for your dog too, who will love you for it.
My little guy just loves it when I get new ideas about dog biscuits. After all, he’s my taste tester!
I’ve made my own for a while now. Not only do I like making them and developing new flavors and all, but I feel much safer giving my dogs things that I make and know what ingredients go in them…mainly, one’s I’d eat myself.
Dogs love pumpkin! |
While I’m down to just one dog now, which is temporary as I know there’s some homeless dogs that will be calling my name soon from rescue, my usual number of dogs is 3 and mainly German Shepherds. I don’t have to tell anyone that big dogs eat a lot and food and treats can cost big bucks, so I found making my own treats to be very economical. Plus, my dogs love homemade. The few times I’ve fallen back on commercially made biscuits, my dogs actually turned their noses up at them and I’m convinced they only ate them to do me a favor!
My guys don’t have problems with wheat but if yours do, any non-wheat-based flour will do. The trick is just getting a rollable dough.
I like to get fancy–it’s really for my eyes, my dogs don’t care–so here are the biscuit cutters I use~~
Pumpkin Oat Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour or whole-grain flour of choice
- 1 cup whole oats
- 1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree
- 2-4 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 1 or 2 baking sheets (depends on size of biscuit cut) with parchment paper.
- Mix all ingredients, except water. Add only enough water to make a workable and rollable dough.
- Roll out to 1/8-1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes. Turn off oven and let biscuits sit in oven until oven is completely cool. This helps to dehydrate the biscuits for better storage.
- Makes about 3 dozen “medium” (about 3-inch long) dog biscuits.

Hi Barb…thanks for catching that…it got cut off when I transferred the recipe to the app. It’s fixed now, but it’s 3 cups.
